Biography
Formed in the early spring of 2019, the Berlin-based Leonkoro Quartet consists of the two brothers Jonathan and Lukas Schwarz, Amelie Wallner, and Mayu Konoe.
From the very beginning, the quartet has been studying with Eckart Runge and Gregor Sigl (Artemis Quartet) at the University of the Arts Berlin, and shortly after their formation, they became part of the International Institute of Chamber Music of Madrid at the Reina Sofía School of Music in the class of Günter Pichler (Alban Berg Quartett). In addition, they have received tuition from teachers such as Alfred Brendel, Rainer Schmidt (Hagen Quartett), Heime Müller (Artemis Quartett), Oliver Wille (Kuss Quartett), and Luc-Marie Aguera (Quatuor Ysaÿe).
In the summer of 2019, the Leonkoro Quartet was awarded the 1st prize and “Adolfo Betti Award” for the best string quartet at the Virtuoso & Belcanto Festival chamber music competition in Italy. In the same year they got accepted in the network of “Le Dimore del Quartetto”. The four members have frequently attended the “International Chamber Music Campus” of Jeunesses Musicales Deutschland. They were invited by Mozartfest Würzburg to work with Reinhard Goebel at the MozartLab 2020.
Insiders of the string quartet business predict a promising future for the Leonkoro Quartet. Accordingly, the ensemble has appearances in the season 20-21 at renowned chamber music series and festivals such as the Beethovenhaus Bonn, the Heidelberger Streichquartettfest and the Rheinhau Musik Festival.
