Biography
The Siegfried String Quartet, whose members are the violinists Alessandro Savinetti and Giorgia Brancaleon, the viola player Francesco Scarpetti and the cellist Luca Colardo, has its roots in the Milan Conservatory of music. In this stimulating environment, the four musicians learned the foundations of quartet performance practice and chamber music, studying with high-calibre teachers like Ignazio Alfarano and Marco Pace, who conveyed to them their passion for music. In 2008 the quartet was selected as the Conservatory’s best quartet to participate in the masterclass held by the Fine Arts Quartet in Cremona, organized by Fondazione Stradivari, and then went on to perform at the Mondomusica Festival.
After completing their academic studies, they started giving concert performances from 2013, playing for several concert cycles and at some prestigious Italian festivals. In Milan, they performed in recitals, including the concerts of Concerti nel Chiostro, the Diocesan Museum and the Circolo Filologico, and in the Con Brio series. They played at the Festival Luoghi Immaginari in Casale Monferrato in 2013 and the Musica in Cripta series in Varese in 2014, and participated in the Festival di Bellagio in 2016, winning plaudit from the audiences and appreciation from prominent personalities from the music world.
They have received invaluable advice and encouragement from Alberto Intrieri, who has helped them refine their skills and has followed their development over the years. Between 2014 and 2016 they took the master’s course at the University of Milano-Bicocca run by the violinist Anton Sorokow, and attended the masterclasses held by the violinist Francesco Manara and cellist Giovanni Scaglione. Between 2017 and 2018 they attended the postgraduate string quartet course with Andrea Nannoni at the Fiesole School of Music. In spring 2018 they were selected to take part in the Casa del Quartetto project organized by Premio Borciani and Fondazione I Teatri in Reggio Emilia. During this major event they attended the classes run by the Quartetto Prometeo and the Quatuor Tana, they performed in a recital at Palazzo da Mosto and played, alongside three other string quartets, two première performances of works by the composers Troiani and Janulyte in Piazza San Prospero. In 2018, the Siegfried String Quartet, with the pianist Sandra Conte, was selected through an international audition held in London for the Lincoln Center Stage project in partnership with Holland America Line. The project seeks to bring top class chamber music concerts on board its ships, with performances that live up to the name of the prestigious New York-based organisation. From December 2018 to March 2019, the Siegfried quintet thus had the honour of representing the Lincoln Center on board the Koningsdam, performing over 200 chamber music concerts in a variety of formations. In June 2019, the Siegfried Quartet performed in Milan in the Sala Alessi hall in Palazzo Marino for the concert series Palazzo Marino in Musica, a music programme entirely devoted to Viennese Classicism. In February 2020 the Siegfried Quartet played in the frame of the Season Musica al Tempio in Milan, in July 2020 for Musica d’Estate at the Palazzo delle Feste in Bardonecchia and at the Reggia di Venaria Reale, invited by Fondazione Piemonte dal Vivo.
